Plantae Parietaria judaica, commonly known as pellitory-of-the-wall, is a perennial herbaceous plant found throughout the Comunidad Valenciana. Recognizable for its ability to grow in crevices of walls and rocky areas, it is an intriguing part of the local flora due to its resilience and adaptability to different environments.
Some notable features of Parietaria judaica include:
- Leaves: The leaves are simple, bright green, and slightly hairy. They are typically oval-shaped with a pointed tip.
- Flowers: The plant produces small, greenish flowers that are not particularly showy but attract various pollinators.
- Stems: The stems are reddish and also covered with fine hairs, often growing to heights of 30 to 60 cm.
- Habitat: As the common name suggests, it frequently inhabits old walls, roadside banks, and rocky slopes, making it a ubiquitous sight in urban as well as rural areas.
This plant is also known locally as llistera borda, reflecting its widespread recognition in the region. While not a major feature in cultivated landscapes, its presence is a testament to the rich diversity and adaptive strategies of the local flora.
